Evaluation
As I mentioned before, Oliver works and practices very hard and I wish all my students were as motivated and always prepared for the lessons as him. For the last six months Oliver has done everything I asked him to. Of course, not every single attempt was successful but everything that he didn’t succeed in, we tried to work on. Oliver was used to playing through the pieces and that was all he did to practice. All the mistakes he did while playing the piece, he was hoping to correct the next time. Of course, the next time he happened to make exactly the same mistakes resulting in never improving. For the last six months I’ve been patiently writing some practicing charts and setting up small tasks for him to work on. We’re still working on maintaining the pulse throughout the piece and concentrating while playing the piano.
After passing Grade 1, we choose 3 pieces that we’ll be working on for the Grade 2 exam. As I mentioned before, Oliver likes taking grading exams so we have to set the work around the exam dates. Oliver would like to progress to the next grade as soon as possible but he knows that he has to do at least 6 new pieces before doing the next exam.
